Overview: The CAD/GIS Specialist is responsible for the documentation of physical fiber paths across the Surf Internet network in support of selling, design and engineering associated with construction optimization and installing fiber-based services.

CAD Responsibilities:
Produce CAD prints for permitting and construction purposes
Manage Permitting process, submittals and tracking
Develop plans, specifications and other contract documents; ensure compliance with specifications for project work; prepare special reports on and complete special projects as assigned.
Recommend the configuration of the Company’s Computer Aided Drafting System; Provide technical engineering support services to Company personnel on applied engineering/CAD system related questions.
Coordinate the work activities associated with the Company’s CAD System file management and configuration with consultants, architects, engineers, contractors, Company departments and divisions, and outside agencies.
Assists in creating a positive and supportive work environment; enforces a safe workplace; establishes a culture of teamwork and communication; creates a workplace that promotes the organizational values of workplace diversity, equity and inclusion and actively promotes an environment respectful of living and working in a multicultural society.
Assist in the preparation of bid documents and the selection of consultants.
Lead efforts to automate processes where possible using scripting, programming, etc.
Complete assorted required government filings such as but not limited to: FCC Form 477, FCC BDC and USAC Hubb
GIS Responsibilities
GIS and relevant mapping of fiber assets
Apply for and track the progress of permits needed for approved fiber projects
Assist NOC team with splice diagram support
Manage and use Vetro, ESRI ArcGIS, and other systems to document routes for underground and aerial fiber optic cable from both desktop reviews and construction as-builts
Assist in improving automation and streamline processes through GIS systems
Effectively interface and professionally communicate with Executive Management and colleagues in Sales, Construction, Project Management, Network Engineering, Finance and Accounting, among others under tight timelines
Create simple ad-hoc or presentation-quality maps, depending on the situation, for executive decision makers, sales engineers, account executives and peers
Prepare information in various formats (e.
g.
, maps, spreadsheets, slides) for executive management, sales, construction project management, field operations, and network operations when requested
Balance priorities with consideration for importance and urgency of projects.
Quickly switch between numerous small projects, requiring immediate response, and larger projects having multiple steps and longer deadlines
Manage multiple projects with the ability to travel to project
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related field required
Minimum 3 years CAD/GIS experience or a related field
Experience in telecommunications or fiber optic networks
Certificate in Computer Aided Design and Drafting preferred
GIS certification preferred
Principles and methods of drafting both manual and computer aided
Methods of operating computerized drafting design systems and software (AutoCAD)
Ability to make recommendations in automating processes
Knowledge of operations, services, and activities of a GIS program
Understanding of principles and practices of land-based mapping application theory
Ability to use methods and techniques of implementing and deploying GIS-related applications and solutions using a variety of technologies
Knowledge of GIS hardware, software, server-based applications, and web-based applications
Knowledge of a range of software tools for GIS map creation and maintenance, data analysis, and Internet-enabled GIS, City standard software, database and operating systems
Familiarity with pertinent federal, state, and local laws, codes, and regulations
