Job Summary
Applies paints, primers, stains, and finishes to interior and exterior surfaces (walls, ceilings, staircases, equipment, etc.
).
Prepares coating materials by tinting, toning, matching, and blending to obtain desired color or consistency; mixes in various additives such as retardants, hardeners, drying agents, etc.
Prepares surfaces to accept finishes by patching holes, cracks and joints with caulk, putty, plaster or other filler; strips, scrapes, sands or power washes to remove old finish and clean surface.
Strips, sands, seals and finishes doors, furniture, woodwork, trim and flooring.
Removes graffiti; removes, repairs and installs wall coverings.
May perform stenciling and dado work.
Erects scaffolding in safe manner according to site conditions.
Performs other general building maintenance as assigned.
May supervise hourly workers.
Qualifications EDUCATION Required High school diploma or equivalent (such as HSED or GED) WORK EXPERIENCE Required 2 years of verifiable painting experience LICENSES AND CERTIFICATES Required Valid driver's license and ability to be insured by Indiana University upon date of hire SKILLS Required Ability to work in a safe and efficient manner Proficient communication skills Maintains a high degree of professionalism Demonstrates time management and priority setting skills Demonstrates a high commitment to quality Possesses flexibility to work in a fast paced, dynamic environment Seeks to acquire knowledge in area of specialty Highly thorough and dependable Demonstrates a high level of accuracy, even under pressure Excellent organizational skills Ability to represent the company with external constituents Ability to drive multiple projects to successful completion Strong verbal communication and listening skills Ability to build strong customer relationships Ability to read and interpret drawings, blueprints and/or schematics Ability to understand and follow written instructions Ability to determine the kinds of tools and equipment needed to do a job Ability to operate and maintain power equipment of the trade such as: sand blaster, power washer, sprayer equipment (airless and conventional), bucket truck, and fork lift Ability to use ladders and hand tools of the trade such as; brushes, rollers, scrapers, caulking guns, putty knives, etc.
Ability to safely use solvents, cleaners, abrasives and other materials that may pose health hazards to the user and others in the vicinity Ability to calculate proper amounts of materials and equipment to complete projects Knowledge of standard painting and finishing application procedures Ability to use a computer Ability to work with wide variety of cultures and backgrounds Working Conditions / Demands This role requires the ability to remain in a stationary position as well as the ability to move about the workplace for long durations.
It requires effective communication, the ability to operate machinery, tools, and controls.
The role requires the ability to ascend/descend ladders/stairs, and to position one's self in low level positions, detect a variety of chemicals and/or gases.
The role requires the ability to ascend to rooftops and move in tight spaces to perform and complete inspections.
The person in this role must be able to perform the essential functions with or without an accommodation.
