Fortress Manufacturing is a reputable metal fabrication and production shop in Benton Harbor MI, in business since 1996.
Our small team provides high-quality solutions to a range of customers.
This position will perform all welding and related tasks involved in the production process at Fortress Manufacturing; must be able to weld stainless steel, aluminum, and various other metals (primarily carbon steel).
A weld test will be required.
This position will be the primary welder for the production floor, however other responsibilities will be asked; welding will range from 25% to 100% of job duties (tending towards 100%).
Job duties also include set-up and operation of robotic weld cell, spot welders, grinders, and other machines.
Various other related duties may be assigned as needed for successful completion of production orders.
Employees must follow standard work instructions and practice safe work habits to ensure production is as efficient and safe as possible.
*Read Blueprints:* This Welder position must be able to read and interpret blueprints, drawings and engineering plans.
The Fabrication Welder will use the blueprints along with other data, such as work plans, to develop and design their welding projects.
*Fabricate Metal Objects:* Fabrication involves laying out, cutting, fitting, measuring and welding metals to create the desired shape or object.
This is highly detailed work and requires the Fabrication Welder to be knowledgeable of many techniques and tools.
*Inspect Work and Equipment:* You must constantly inspect and test welds and equipment.
Welds are checked for durability as well as meeting specified standards and equipment must be examined to determine if repairs or new equipment is needed.
*Primary duties and responsibilities:*
* Read and understand work instructions
* Weld production components utilizing MIG, TIG, and robotic weld cell
* Load and unload parts
* Utilize spot welder machine from time to time if the print calls for it
* Change weld tips, nozzles, and fixtures
* Wear appropriate PPE and keep area clean and organized at all times
* Inspect welds for accuracy, quality, and conformance to specifications
* Package parts per specifications
* Use small hand-held tools to make minor adjustments to parts
* Read and understand measurement devices
* Assemble loose parts into a jig fixture
* Weld per print specifications
* Remove weld spatter
* Handle/lift/push/pull up to fifty (50) lbs.
(wire spools / parts) on a repetitive basis
* Operate forklift or other material handling equipment as needed
* Ability to work independently or as part of a team to meet project deadlines
* Detail-oriented with a focus on producing high-quality welds
*Education, prior work experience and specialized skills and knowledge*:
* Must be able to use small hand tools, grinders, sanders, etc.
* Must be able to accurately complete all required system documentation such as production reports, inspection reports, etc.
* Must be able to pass written and practical weld evaluations
